Rebel without Applause
“Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels – men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower
There was a time when the rebel was the freak who didn’t shower, didn’t shave, and between tokes would mumble the longest sentence that he could remember — “turn on, tune in and drop out.” That guy is a czar in the Obama White House now and he’s turned in his choom-gang decoder roach for a CPUSA “Social-Justice” award and a cubicle in the west wing.
The real rebel today is the grandma with a tea-bag pinned to her bonnet. That’s right, it’s not Meathead — it’s Edith. Patriots have had enough with the establishment in politics, education, and news and we’re not going to take it from “the man” for one minute longer. Strap in, it’s going to be a wild ride.
Mitt Romney, take note: We are tired of milquetoast politicians who talk tough on leadership only to kick the hard choices down the line. It’s why Rubio owned Crist and Mourdock beat Lugar. We’re the Elephant Party; we have long memories and we remember George Bush (after signing McCain/Feingold) telling us that he’s confident the Supreme Court will scrub it behind the ears … they didn’t. Yet again another Bush disappointment tells us that he was against ObamaCare before he was for it. Who knew that our Chief Justice was once a District Attorney in Gotham City? Did he really flip a coin? The only thing missing at the ruling was Heath Ledger in a nurse’s outfit asking us, “Why so serious?” Sorry Harvey, we’re conservatives; that room won’t rent.
Harkin, Kucinich, Nader and Sanders aren’t rebels anymore; they are too far to the right for the Obama White House. Allen West, Joe Walsh, Marco Rubio and Rand Paul — these are the real non-conformists. They are shaking things up and the establishment in both parties is looking like their laxative just kicked in. We’re done with Bush and Sanford, we’re moving on to Walker and Christie who kick grass and take blame, then wipe the blood from their cheek, crane their hand and beckon forth the hacks in the union or the press corps; and when the Governor of New Jersey speaks, both the Most-Interesting-Man-In-The-World and E.F. Hutton put their Dos Equis down to listen.
In Education the push for school choice is picking up steam while the exodus into homeschooling is at an all-time high. A plethora of tutoring companies fighting McDonald’s and 7-11′s for corner rights is the most obvious testimony to the failure of government schools; unless of course you gauge success by how quick your daughter can put a condom on a cucumber. (Nice to know we beat the Japanese in something).
I can remember when the Sex Pistols and The Clash had London Burning, I can even remember when Tipper Gore wanted to censor rock bands but now we have Green Day and Rage Against the Machine fawning over the machine and asking it for its autograph. Rumor has it, Tom Morello and Michelle Obama trade Che Guevara T-shirts and Mao hats. The Russian band Pussy Riot has bigger cojones than these guys; they stood up to Putin and are still doing time for it. In our country, Madison Rising is the true counter-culture rebels; don’t look for them to be playing GMA or a Victoria’s Secret fashion show anytime soon.
And finally, whatever happened to Woodward and Bernstein, the faux investigative reporters that every young journalism student wanted to be? Our national media is all Ted Baxter and no Lou Grant; it’s PRAVDA without the gun pointed to its head. It doesn’t ask the hard questions and if it does, it quickly remedies its mistake by not asking any follow-up questions. This lap dog press corps who was so concerned over George W’s “lack of curiosity” refuses to follow any trail that doesn’t end in pre-conceived stereotypes reinforced by a Gaia-worshipping, LEAN FORWARD, grab the ankles worldview.
The real newshounds, Jason Mattera, James O’Keefe, Hannah Giles and the late Andrew Breitbart go where the main stream media don’t and in some cases, where the FBI and Justice Department won’t. The real Billy Jack of the 21st century isn’t Wallace or Cronkite; it’s Beck, Savage and Limbaugh. The old gray lady is old and gray because she’s dead and decaying and, trust me on this on: She’s no lady. The new media will own tomorrow.
The Blaze, Drudge and ClashDaily.com will be the first resort of the sincere and the last vestige of the true. The bloggers are the new pamphleteers and will inspire and incite a new generation of insurgents. Barnhardt, Malkin, Giles and Steyn: We’re here and we have no fear. Thomas Paine broke it down like this — “Let them call me rebel, and welcome; I feel no concern from it. For I should suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul.”
We are raising the next generation of American Heroes. What are you raising? We don’t fight because we think we can win; in the spirit of the 300 who fell at the hot gates and in the shadow of those who died on their feet at the Alamo. We fight because we’re faithful. Faithful to a cause infinitely higher than convenience and plunder. We fight for God-given, God-ordained Liberty.
Spill our blood and it will turn stony ground fertile; we are freedom’s rebels and we don’t need your applause.
